Media Art Innovation Lab

WFM200

The Media Art Innovation Lab (MAIL) is a new joint course that brings together all students from the six study programmes at the Westerdals Department of Film and Media (WIFM) in interdisciplinary and innovative collaboration. MAIL launches first time February 2025.

In this course, it is the students who drive innovation and creative processes, and develop knowledge and new insights in a teaching context where they are active participants in the learning process. A central part of the course is interdisciplinary collaboration. Students from several study programs work together in groups to plan, develop and implement project work. This helps to develop the students' cooperation skills, and gives them the opportunity to respond to and comment on social issues and the times we live in. The students will also be introduced to value perspectives such as sustainable assessments and principles for green production, as well as principles for diversity and inclusivity.

The development of the MAIL framework is currently underway. In close collaboration with the technical team at WIFM, we are also compiling a comprehensive overview of resources and logistics, including rooms, facilities, teachers, and equipment. Additionally, plans are in motion to establish new industry partnerships with both commercial and non-profit sectors.

The educational philosophy that will characterize MAIL is intended to trickle into all WIFM study programmes, and it will be shared widely at Kristiania as well as at conferences and other national and international initiatives.
