IMPACT 1 is an interdisciplinary four-week introduction course led by Rune Obrestad. During IMPACT 1, first-year students from all six fields of study at the Westerdals Department of Film and Media (WIFM) work together in interdisciplinary groups.

The course had ‘social engagement’ as an overarching theme in 2023, while the main focus was on training the students in interdisciplinary collaboration and creative development methods, combined with a first introduction to academic writing and various research methods. During the course, student groups autonomously selected a theme to focus on, and over the four weeks, they developed both an audiovisual production and a concept exhibition, utilizing interdisciplinary resources to address their chosen topics.

In total, there were 130 students divided into 26 groups who delivered engaging and thought-provoking interdisciplinary productions and final exhibitions. This course serves as an introduction to higher education in film and media, where independent reflection and responsibility for one's own learning are at the centre.

IMPACT 1 presents the audiovisual field by exploring different roles the field can have in a societal perspective. Based on thorough evaluation and redevelopment, the IMPACT team is getting ready to launch IMPACT version 2 in Fall 2024.

The PRISMA research and development group is committed to continuously assessing its progress, identifying what is working effectively and areas that require improvement, to ensure the continued success and development of the PRISMA pedagogical model.
